In this Episode, Chad Johnson kicks off Season 3, Episode 1 with his “CJ’s Sluggo”.
Howdy y’all! Welcome back to the Tasty Bug Tying Series.
Chad Johnson kicks off Season 3, Episode 1 with his “CJ’s Sluggo”. He ties these in a 7-9″ version for his home river in Arkansas, the White River. For us Wyoming boys, our fish prefer a bit smaller of a fly, so he sized them to around 5″. These weightless flies are incredibly easy to cast, but are better suited to a heavy sinking line. The sparse bucktail head pushes water and allows the schlappen tail to kick back and forth. This action is surely acknowledged by the fish, as they hit it like a freight train. Be sure to tie some of these up for the fall fishing season on the Bighorn River!
Try them in various color combinations, like:
-blue and white
-gray and white
-chartreuse and yellow
-olive and yellow
-yellow and rust
CJ’s Sluggo recipe:
-Whiting American Hackle
-UV Polar Chenille
-Maxima 60lb Ultragreen Monofilament
