Today life and work has created a culture of NOT getting out in nature. Human society has clearly gotten lost in civilization. Somehow work and making that next payment has become more important than enjoying the simple things in life. What’s getting in your way of getting out in nature? All you have to do is snap out of it, the world is there for all to enjoy. Life is far too short to waste what little time we all have on this great earth.
Far too often people tell me that they are too busy to get out and fish. These words are like fingernails on a chalk board to me. I decided 15 years ago that I would not look back from my geriatric chair with regret. I will not regret all the time I spent fly fishing. I will not regret spending time with my family. I will not regret anything other than having to work when I look back on my life.
I have already told my wife that if I die when I’m out on the water, she does not to send anyone to find me. Why? One might ask. Well, because I will already be right where I want to be. Besides, the rescue would just waste her death benefit vacation monies. All this aside, we all need to spend more time on our selves and our families. Work and life’s problems will always be waiting to cause you headaches just as soon as you get back to work.
I am giving you all permission to go out and enjoy your selves and your families. Since some of you won’t give yourself permission, my approval is all you need to tell your boss that the guy at the fly shop said you could take some time off for you and your family. Now get your vacation scheduled for at least a week and throw in a bout 10 weekends of fun in this summer. You’ll thank me later.
