From rods to reels I am used to hearing customers squawk about prices. As most things in life you truly get what you pay for……. that’s what granddaddy always said. The thing with equipment such as this, all of it comes together when I get into their hands. Other things that are actual equipment are far underestimated for their value in the field simply because it is harder to understand.
Despite popular belief I am not getting dressed up to be the next river Gucci model nor do I do it for my peers (I know that just shattered some hearts). There is an actual use and purpose behind engineered well designed fishing clothing. There is nothing that replaces good technical gear out on the water.
Summertime wet wading I want pants that protect me from random branches etc. yet will be dry before I make the hike back to the truck. Lightweight breathable layering keeps me unobstructed, warm, and at the top of my game in the middle of winter justifies every penny I dump into this gear. The list goes on, but technical clothing is designed to help you perform regardless of your surroundings.
Talk to your local shops about the fishing you are doing and get some help getting set up with the right gear for what you are doing. Do not make the mistake of assuming that that clothing is anything short of gear. On the same note I cannot say all of my “fishing” clothing is gear. My Simms Long Haul is a long ways from that, but it sure is cozy.
